I’m 24 years old. Adam Foote has been in the NHL for 19 seasons. For the length of time that I’ve known about and cared about hockey, he’s been a premier defenseman in the best hockey league on earth.

Foote plans to retire at the rapidly-approaching end of this season.

I’ll admit that I’m no die-hard Avalanche fan, but his has been one of those constant names throughout my hockey-watching years. At the beginning of each season, I don’t wonder if he’s still in the league - he just is (this was formerly Chris Chelios’s role).

At the moment, he’s injured, but is hoping to take the ice for the season finale against Edmonton.

Hopefully he heals in time, but regardless, much respect to Adam Foote for longevity, solid and relentless play, and holding the respect and admiration of his peers, along with those who have watched him since the age of five.

The Boston Red Sox fall to 0-6 after a 1-0 loss to the Indians. In the top of the 9th, the potential tying run overran second base, and was subsequently tagged out to end the game.

The Red Sox are in a serious funk, and while most analysts continue to remind us that it’s early in a long season, this season is going to feel a lot longer than normal for Red Sox fans if their team doesn’t start picking up wins.
